Taos has Mountains, Rivers and Deserts !
Taos has Mountains!
Just 9 miles from the SnowMansion are trailheads for great mountian hikes like the 1.5 hour hike to Williams Lake which is well shaded, not steep and great for all ages!
Also 9 Miles from our door is the Trail head to Wheeler Peak - the highest peak in New Mexico!
Hiking and horseback riding are good mountain activities.
Taos has Rivers!
We are about 9 miles from the Rio Grande River where you can swim, soak in the Hot Springs or walk along the river.
And there is Wild Rivers too for hiking and llama treking.
PS Llama Treking with Stewart through wild rivers is the best way to get children to eat up an encyclobedia's worth of info about the geology, nature, botony and history of this area.
and Hot Springs!
There are two remarkable hot-springs near us. The first is called Black Rock hot springs in Arroyo Hondo and the Old Stage Coach. The front desk has maps available.
Ojo Caliente is a fabulous and affordable spa/hot springs in the painted desert near Espanola where you can spend your day luxuriating. It takes 1 hour each way to get from us to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs.
North Side Spa & South Side Spa and Tennis club are both wonderful places to soak tired muscles.
For a so so list of state wide hotspring GPS information, go to www.hotspringensthusiast.com/newmexico.asp
If you find a hotsprings listed in an area you are interested in you may want ot google the name of the hotsprings for more usable info on in.
Taos has Deserts!
A little farther away you can find the most beatiful desert landscapes! Take a day trip to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu and see the white cliffs.
