Just 9 miles from the SnowMansion are trailheads for great mountian hikes like the 1.5 hour hike to Williams Lake which is well shaded, not steep and great for all ages!
Also 9 Miles from our door is the Trail head to Wheeler Peak - the highest peak in New Mexico!
Rivers
We are about 9 miles from the Rio Grande River where you can swim, soak in the Hot Springs or walk along the river.
Hot Springs
There are two remarkable hot-springs near us. The first is called Black Rock hot springs in Arroyo Hondo and the Old Stage Coach. The front desk has maps available.
Ojo Caliente is a fabulous and affordable spa/hot springs in the painted desert near Espanola where you can spend your day luxuriating. It takes 1 hour each way to get from us to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs.
North Side Spa & South Side Spa and Tennis club are both wonderful places to soak tired muscles.
Deserts
A little farther away you can find the most beatiful desert landscapes! Take a day trip to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu and see the white cliffs.
Right across from the hostel is the Taos Indian Pueblo's sacred land.
A short drive away is the famous Taos Ski Valley and Carson National Forest. Soak in natural hot springs, hike, backpack, horseback ride, challenge the whitewater of the Rio Grande,
Fly-fish the many rivers and streams and visit the 800-year-old adobe village at Taos Pueblo. Stop by the famous artist colony of Taos and see the eighty plus art galleries in the area.
Most importantly remember to eat plenty of New Mexico green chile!
If your project in Taos indicates the need for a guide or lecturer in whatever field, we do maintain contact with people specializing in just about every area of local interest who are prepared to offer their service where needed.
Whatever the purpose of your group's trip, for quality facilities, experienced professional service and economy, contact us here at the SnowMansion. We would like to be your study and outing center in northern New Mexico.HI
