Live Music and food:

• Taos Mesa Brewing Company: Incredible indoor and outdoor music venue with the best beer in Taos. 7 miles towards the gorge bridge.
• The Solar Center: Live Music and food just 4 miles away featuring a wonderful happy hour and expansive indoor and out door settings. 4 miles towards Taos.
• Taos Inn’s Adobe Bar: Best place for early evening (6pm-10pm) live music and social scene.  Equal mix of locals and visitors enjoying each other’s company. Music always free. 9 miles just before Taos Plaza.
• Alley Cantina:  Great food till 11pm and live music till midnight every day. 9 miles just behind Taos Plaza.

Groceries:

• Sol Food Market: (in Arroyo Seco next door) Great village health food market. 10:00AM - 7PM
• Cid’s: Taos’ locally owned health food store. 7:30AM- 7PM

Taos History

A First Nation People, Taos Pueblo village was established almost 1,000 years ago. Four hundred years of spanish influence, as seen in adobe building and acequias system, to name two of the host influences presented to the public. Also are the anglo influences, especially the artistic influences charactaristic of the newcomers in the 1920's and 1950's and the hippy influences charactaristic of the newcomers in the 1960's and 1970's.

Just 9 miles from the SnowMansion are trailheads for great mountain hikes like the 1.5 hour hike to William Lake which is well shaded, not steep and great for all ages!

Also 9 Miles from our door is the Trail head to Wheeler Peak - the highest peak in New Mexico!

Skiing, SnowBoarding and SnowMobile Touring are good mountain activities in the winter!

Hiking, horseback riding and LLama Trecking are good mountain activities in the Summer!

Taos Rivers!

We are about 9 miles from the Rio Grande River at the John Dunn Recreation area at where you can swim, soak in the Hot Springs or walk along the river.

A little farther is Cebolla Mesa and Wild Rivers.

PS Llama Treking with Stewart at Wild Earth Adventures is the best way learn about the geology, nature, botony and history of this area. Kids even enjoy learning and hiking when leading a Llama. 

Taos Hot Springs!

There are two remarkable hot-springs near us. The first is called Black Rock or Hondo Hot Springs in Arroyo Hondo and second is called Stage Coach or Mamby Hot Springs. Find them on google maps under John Dunne Bridge Recreation Area.

Ojo Caliente is a fabulous and affordable spa/hot springs in the painted desert near Espanola where you can spend your day luxuriating. It takes 1 hour each way to get from us to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs.

North Side Spa & South Side Spa and Tennis club are both wonderful places to soak tired muscles.

Taos Deserts!

A little farther away you can find the most beatiful desert landscapes! Take a day trip to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu and see the white cliffs.

There are two remarkable hot-springs near us. The first is called Black Rock or Hondo Hot Springs at the John Dunn Bridge Recreational area in Arroyo Hondo 9 miles away and second is called Stage Coach or Mamby Hot Springs on Tune Dr. around 13 miles away. Both can be found on Google Maps.

NYE at The Plaza

Taos Plaza is the place to be on New Year’s Eve! Residents and visitors enjoy watching the countdown on the big movie screen while listening to live DJ music. There’s also a light show, fireworks, pig roast, and plenty of food vendors.

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge

Park, stretch your legs and take in some awesome views of the Rio Grande and surrounding canyon. As the second highest bridge in the US, this area offers outdoor enthusiasts an abundant amount of recreational opportunities

High Road to Taos

On your way to Taos, check out the High Road, a stunning and winding road that takes you through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Visitors enjoy awe-inspiring scenery and remote mountain areas such as the tiny Spanish Land Grant villages and Pueblo Indian villages.

Taos Country Club

Located only five miles south of Taos, the Taos Country Club offers a spectacular par 72, 7,300 yard championship course and features breathtaking high-desert scenery surrounded by the Sangre De Christo mountains.

LOCAL EVENTS

• Taos Solar Music Festival
  2-day music festival and sustainable energy fair. The festival welcomes the best of national and regional artists. Big names like Mumford and Sons and Lyle Lovett have graced the stages of Solorfest. This year’s gig is set for June 27th & 28th.
• Plaza Live
  A weekly free summer sound series on Thursdays, Taos Plaza Live kicks off in May and runs until September 1st. Local and regional blues, swing and folk music bands rotate throughout the summer.
• Taos Mountain Balloon Rally
  2016 marks the 24th annual balloon rally. Get up close and personal with balloonists and about 25-50 hot air balloons. A great family-friendly event.
• The Taos Wool Festival
  This free two day family-friendly festival celebrates the regional wool market and will feature juried vendors displaying their wool, fiber, yarns, and artistic creations

• Millicent Rogers Museum
  Established in 1956, this Taos museum rotates its collections on a frequent basis through its galleries and is unique in the southwest because of its intimate exhibit spaces. A must-see for a taste of the rich and diverge cultural heritage of the southwest.
• Harwood Museum of Art
  A subset of the University of New Mexico, the Harwood Museum of Art curates exhibits dedicated to the northern New Mexico. Native American, Hispanic and contemporary collections are frequent mainstays at the museum.
• Kit Carson Home & Museum
  Located in the heart of Taos, the home was built in 1825 and originally the residence of famed Kit Carson, an American frontiersman and soldier. The only remaining physical reminders of Carson’s life, visitors can take a guided tour of the house and explore exhibits on Carson’s life and accomplishments.
• Taos Art Museum & Fechin House
  Housed in the former abode of Russian artist Nicolai Fechin, the museum opened 1998 and features many of his hand-carved furnishings and art and is now home to works from the Taos Society of Artists. A variety of exhibits and events take place every year for visitors and locals to enjoy.
• La Hacienda De Los Martínez Museum
  On the National Register of Historic Places, the Hacienda de los Martinez is now a living museum and one of the last remaining “Great Houses” remaining in the Southwest. Get a rare glimpse of the rugged frontier life of the 1800s and can pick up bultos, quilts, and vividly colored hand-woven textiles at their shop
