Taos is a cultural mecca in Northern New Mexico. Starting with the Taos Pueblo, moving to the Spanish and Catholic Churches and Tradiciones, adding the communal meals Hindu practice at the Neem Caroli Baba Center and the best enduring embodiment of Taos' commune culture and communal meals, ziccar dancing, shabbat and all sorts of retreats at the Lama Foundation, and more than a sprinkle of amaizing theater talent at the Taos Center for the Arts and Wisefool Theater, and home to countless Earthships and environmental initiatives and solar architecture.

Taos History
A First Nation People, Taos Pueblo village was established almost 1,000 years ago. Four hundred years of spanish influence, as seen in adobe building and acequias system, to name two of the host influences presented to the public. Also are the anglo influences, especially the artistic influences charactaristic of the newcomers in the 1920's and 1950's and the hippy influences charactaristic of the newcomers in the 1960's and 1970's.

Just 9 miles from the SnowMansion are trailheads for great mountain hikes like the 1.5 hour hike to William Lake which is well shaded, not steep and great for all ages!
Also 9 Miles from our door is the Trail head to Wheeler Peak - the highest peak in New Mexico!
Skiing, SnowBoarding and SnowMobile Touring are good mountain activities in the winter!
Hiking, horseback riding and LLama Trecking are good mountain activities in the Summer!
Taos Rivers!
We are about 9 miles from the Rio Grande River at the John Dunn Recreation area at where you can swim, soak in the Hot Springs or walk along the river.
A little farther is Cebolla Mesa and Wild Rivers.
PS Llama Treking with Stewart at Wild Earth Adventures is the best way learn about the geology, nature, botony and history of this area. Kids even enjoy learning and hiking when leading a Llama.
Taos Hot Springs!
There are two remarkable hot-springs near us. The first is called Black Rock or Hondo Hot Springs in Arroyo Hondo and second is called Stage Coach or Mamby Hot Springs. Find them on google maps under John Dunne Bridge Recreation Area.
Ojo Caliente is a fabulous and affordable spa/hot springs in the painted desert near Espanola where you can spend your day luxuriating. It takes 1 hour each way to get from us to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs.
North Side Spa & South Side Spa and Tennis club are both wonderful places to soak tired muscles.
Taos Deserts!
A little farther away you can find the most beatiful desert landscapes! Take a day trip to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu and see the white cliffs.

NYE at The Plaza
Taos Plaza is the place to be on New Year’s Eve! Residents and visitors enjoy watching the countdown on the big movie screen while listening to live DJ music. There’s also a light show, fireworks, pig roast, and plenty of food vendors.
Rio Grande Gorge Bridge
Park, stretch your legs and take in some awesome views of the Rio Grande and surrounding canyon. As the second highest bridge in the US, this area offers outdoor enthusiasts an abundant amount of recreational opportunities
High Road to Taos
On your way to Taos, check out the High Road, a stunning and winding road that takes you through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Visitors enjoy awe-inspiring scenery and remote mountain areas such as the tiny Spanish Land Grant villages and Pueblo Indian villages.

The SnowMansion is happy to offer 1 or multiday Gardening Clinics for guest for an additional fee.
Cost is $60 per 4 hour daily clinic specializing on the particular gardening phase happening during your stay. Cost for 4 or more days is $40 per day. Participation in or family dinner is included.
